MYHarvest at the Harrogate Spring Flower Show

The MYHarvest team joined up with the National Allotment Society to create a Gold Award stall at the Harrogate Spring Flower Show. Roscoe and Miriam (MYHarvest) shared the pitch with Phil Gomersall (National Allotment Society president) to inform and enthuse members of the public about growing their own food… and telling us what they harvest!

The four days of the show were very busy with numerous people showing great interest in MYHarvest and keen to sign up and get involved. Around another 100 people signed up to the MYHarvest monthly newsletter (want to subscribe too? Email: myharvest@sheffield.ac.uk) and many more registered their growing spaces on the website. We weren’t just giving away flyers and information on how to participate; we also gave away 1000 customised MYHarvest plant label stakes and plenty of MYHarvest stickers to budding growers from 80 days to 80 years old!

The flower show also proved to be a great opportunity to meet other organisations, such as Kitchen Garden magazine (keep your eyes peeled in the upcoming edition), the RHS (already a project partner), the National Vegetable Society (who surely have the biggest harvests of all!) and the Northern Fruit Group, among others. If that wasn’t enough networking, we also got a live interview on BBC Radio Leeds Sunday Gardening programme (listen to Phil talk about MYHarvest here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p04z7btw)!

Nonetheless, the best encounter must have been meeting the very pea-ceful lady… dressed as a pea!

If you missed us at the Harrogate Spring Flower Show, don’t despair. You’ll have the opportunity to meet us in person, ask us any questions about MYHarvest (and anything else) and pick up some free MYHarvest stickers and plant label stakes, at the BBC Gardeners World Live (15th-18th June) and Great Yorkshire Show (11th-13th July) soon!
