MYHarvest meets Monty: BBC Gardeners’ World Live

The MYHarvest team join forces with the National Allotment Society to meet growers from all corners of the UK, and some of the gardening television stars that inspire them!

The National Allotment Society and MYHarvest were set up right in the entrance of the main hall with two 25m2 vegetable beds planted with everything you’d hope to find on your allotment at this time of year: broad beans, tomatoes, chillies, spring onions, lettuces… You name it, it was there on display. There were also some ‘vegetables’ that you wouldn’t normally expect to find on the allotment: hand-crotcheted leeks, tomatoes, sweetcorn, cauliflower and aubergines!

While our prime position opposite the main stage was generating lots of interest in MYHarvest from people walking by to hear the BBC’s biggest and best gardening stars share their knowledge, we thought there were more ways to engage with the 99,000 people that were at the show. A few conversations with right people led to Roscoe of the MYHarvest team getting up onto the Grow Your Own stage at the start of each hourly show to talk to the audience about MYHarvest and how to get involved.

Later on in the day, a trip backstage resulted in meeting Monty Don in person! He was very enthusiastic about the MYHarvest, and encouraged his 50,000 Twitter followers to participate. We also met the – not quite so famous – compost king (who was displaying many of the ingredients you can put in your compost) and the Jazz apple superhero (who was… displaying what happens if you eat too many apples?!).

It was a very busy show and we met lots of wonderful people who were keen to get involved in MYHarvest. If you missed us here, see you at the next show!
